Rwanda Defence Force: A Force for Peace and Security

History and Evolution

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has a rich history, having evolved from the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA), a liberation force that played a pivotal role in ending the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Today, the RDF is a well-equipped and professional military force responsible for safeguarding Rwanda's sovereignty and protecting its citizens.

Mission and Structure

The RDF's mission is to defend Rwanda's territorial integrity, protect the population, and promote peace and stability both domestically and internationally. To accomplish this mission, the RDF is organized into six elements: infantry, artillery, mechanized infantry, combat support, combat service support, and air force.

The RDF is under the command of His Excellency President Paul Kagame, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief. President Kagame has been instrumental in the transformation of the RDF into a modern and effective fighting force. He has also played a key role in promoting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.
